Announcement: Bruce Coleman, Economic Development Manager for City of Sherwood to Retire

We would like to congratulate Bruce Coleman, Economic Development Manager for the City of Sherwood, on his retirement.

Bruce has over 30-years’ experience in economic and community development for various cities in California, Texas and Oregon.  He has served as the Economic Development Manager for the City of Sherwood for the past 5 years, where he is responsible for providing the staff leadership in developing and implementing the City’s pro-active economic development initiatives.  In Sherwood, Bruce has focused on working with many private and public sector partners to implement the City of Sherwood’s vision for the growth of 2.5 million square feet of new multi-tenant industrial park space for technology/advanced manufacturing companies – with the objective of establishing Sherwood as an emerging tech hub for Greater Portland and the Silicon Forest.

Prior to joining Sherwood, Bruce worked as Director of Business Development for the City of McKinney (Texas) Economic Development Corporation where he helped recruit manufacturing companies to this large suburban community located in the Dallas-Ft Worth Metroplex.  Before that, he served for nearly 10 years as Economic Development Director for the City of Murrieta, California where he led initiatives to attract large businesses to this suburban Southern California community and to create the City-owned life sciences technology innovation incubator.  Bruce has a BA in International Relations from George Washington University and an MA in Urban and Regional Planning from Fresno State.

In his recent retirement announcement, Bruce explains, “…that after extensive discussions with my family and having thought long and hard about this, I decided to submit my letter of retirement to the City of Sherwood recently.  My last day in the office will be October 4th.  Our plan is to move to Philadelphia to be closer to our grandkids and other family member who live in the Northeast.  This is, of course, bittersweet for me since I have so enjoyed having the opportunity- during these past 5 years – to work as a member of the City team focused on encouraging the growth of new businesses and jobs in Sherwood to serve the Metro Portland region.  It has been an honor and privilege for me to serve this community.”

Although Bruce’s retirement is a loss for the Sherwood community and Oregon as a whole, the impact of his hard work and dedication will be felt for years to come.

In light of this announcement, the City of Sherwood is currently searching for its next Economic Development Manager. This position has been posted to the OEDA Oregon Job Board, and the city will be accepting applications through September 1st, 2024.
