Job: Economic Development Project Coordinator (City of Salem)

The City of Salem is seeking an energetic individual to analyze, support, and implement economic and community development projects, programs, and strategies. Coordination may include involvement in urban renewal and infrastructure projects, grant writing and oversight, neighborhood and business outreach, and programs to support emerging and small businesses. The City is updating its Economic Development Strategic Plan. The successful candidate will be involved in the strategic planning process and when complete, assist with implementation of recommendations. This position will work under the direction of the Economic Development Manager and in coordination with other Department and City staff as well as neighborhood and business groups.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, passionate, and eager to learn, with some experience working with businesses and/or the public. A successful candidate will be capable of working independently but also collaboratively with the other Department and City staff, as well as local and regional partners. Responsibilities will include research, writing, planning, and coordinating new, existing, and ongoing projects and programs in the areas of urban renewal, brownfields redevelopment, corridor revitalization, infrastructure, workforce housing, and business and worker retention. Communication is key in this role and a successful candidate will have strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to understand and adapt to an audience and its needs.
