New + Next: Building Civic & Economic Innovation
Oregon has a strong legacy and a much-admired reputation around civic and economic innovation – from technology and active-wear to sustainability, urban planning, neighborhood involvement and citizenship; and is well-known for its vibrant youth culture and one of the fastest growing refugee and immigrant populations in the country. The World Affairs Council of Oregon’s summit, Diplomacy Begins Here: New + Next – Building Civic & Economic Innovation, will explore emergent best practices around entrepreneurship and economic development, youth leadership, multicultural integration, and how communities can build stronger networks and strategic partnerships that can create more prosperous, informed, responsive, resilient, and vibrant communities. This is a pressing topic for the community and also one that draws International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) groups to Oregon each year. The summit will feature community leaders and resources that are active in IVLP programming. The summit will serve a pressing community need for dialogue as well as showcase IVLP resources at their best. Further, this summit will address many U.S. foreign policy goals, as the summit will look at Economic Development and Entrepreneurship, Youth Leadership, and Women’s Empowerment through the lens of new and next-generation Portlanders.
